“Destiny: a walking vision,” was the theme of the 13th annual African American Male Summit that was held last weekend at Kempsville High School.
The objective of the summit is to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. and empower African American youth. ASCD author, administrator and motivational speaker, Principal Baruti Kafele, was a keynote speaker at the event. Students in grades six through 12 were offered access to college and/or university representatives, local businessmen, and many other educational opportunities.
“Very inspirational. Always a groundbreaking event. The young men took away great information,” said Ocean Lakes’ Co-sponsor Bryan Everett. “I plan to take two of these students to the Men of Faith event in Washington, D.C.”
