Track hurdles into the indoor season

Girl’s and boy’s indoor track begins the new season with a bang at the first indoor track meet of the 2022-2023 season. The meet took place on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at the new Virginia Beach Sports Center with eleven teams competing. 

Seven runners placed in the top 3, giving Ocean Lakes significant points. Brooke Gunter placed first in pole vault, Sophia Richardson placed first in the 500 meter dash, Robert Wetherholt placed first in the 500 meter dash, Nick Pham placed first in the 1600, Lambert Edigin placed second in the 1600, Grace Thompson placed second in the 3200 and Roman Chapman placed third in the 3200. 

The following indoor meet is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, with events starting at 2 p.m., at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Next weekend the track team will compete in the VB relays on Jan. 6 and 7. 

“The number one thing the team is working on right now for this season is sharpening our speed work transitioning from cross country. Track is faster, and we need our fast-twitch muscles in top condition,” said senior Dylan Evans.
