Five teachers were honored as finalists for 2020’s Ocean Lakes Distinguished Educators and Teacher of the Year, and a virtual ceremony was held on Dec. 21.

Distinguished educators Alexis Jones, Meri Riddick, Scott Sonier, Rebecca Strohm, and Christine Thornton, were recognized; Meri Riddick was awarded Ocean Lakes’ Teacher of the Year. Riddick is an instructional technology specialist who has been invaluable during this past year’s virtual learning and teaching transition.

Held during a Zoom call, all five teachers were recognized by the administration for their contributions to the school, and students spoke on their behalf through video and audio recordings.

“Amid COVID, several teachers at Ocean Lakes have distinguished themselves as exemplary educators by reimagining teaching and learning,” said Principal Claire LeBlanc. “I want to congratulate them and thank you all for what you do for Ocean Lakes, our students, and our staff.”
