Until next time, winter sports
March 1, 2023
As winter sports end, the memories made become history. To celebrate the official end of the season, a winter sports banquet will be held March 1, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
¨This winter’s gymnastics season created so many lifelong memories. I’ve met new people who have influenced my life in such a positive way,¨ said sophomore Maggie Sokalzuk.
Sports allow teenagers to meet new people with the same interests and goals. Every day at practice, teenagers spend a minimum of two hours together in which friendships are formed through the share of blood, sweat and tears.
¨My basketball team has worked through many hardships together; the challenges have only brought us closer and allowed us to build chemistry on and off the court,¨ said junior Ayako Smith.
Losses, roadblocks and failure often create more cohesive chemistry.
¨During a regular season game against FC, our starting point guard got hurt, and four people fouled out. We could hardly hold our ground, but we persevered as a team and ended up winning in overtime,¨ said Ayako.
As the season comes to an end, each sport is no longer just a team. Instead, they recognize each other as family.
According to varsity basketball coach Mario Mullen, the boy’s varsity basketball team had an array of personalities that meshed well together, and they formed a family. They enjoyed sharing jokes and laughter, making practice a fun and unique experience, no matter the score.
¨I would not trade these guys for anything or any other team; being around this bunch has really been fun,¨ said Mullen.
