Over 100 students woke up extra early to watch the sunrise with their senior friends at Sandbridge, Little Island Park, in Virginia Beach on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023.
The sunrise was technically an unofficial Ocean Lakes event, but it was set up by the class of 2024 executive board.
“One thing that surprised me was how many people showed up. It put a smile on my face because in past years, engaging students was difficult. This was a pleasant aberration,” said class of 2024 president Revanth Renukunta.
The event was filled with people doing all sorts of different activities. Students were seen playing various different games and even surfing.
“I loved throwing a football around with classmates,” said senior Corinne Scott.
Clear skies and scattered clouds also made the sunrise a sight to see. Many students could be seen taking pictures of the vibrant landscape.
“This is a beautiful sunrise. I’d give it about an eight out of 10,” said senior Ethan Herrell.
