From TikTok videos, Instagram reels, Youtube Shorts and newly released Spotify Stream On, modern social media platforms are constantly implementing new techniques to reel in users.
Spotify is a music streaming service app that has just recently adopted characteristics of TikTok, Instagram and Youtube by adding their own scrolling feature to entice more listeners to other content within the app. This feature guides the user through quick snippets of songs with the ability to like, share and follow like other social media platforms.
Stream On is easily accessible through the music tab on the Spotify main page, according to theverge.com. From there, the page is transformed into a vertically scrolling feed that looks very similar to Instagram Reels and the ‘TikTok For You’ page.
“Vertical scrolling is everywhere now and is obviously a useful tool for spotify because it allows quick preview of playlists and songs that you wouldn’t normally find,” said senior Trey Hancock.
Besides Stream On, Spotify has also included an artificial intelligence (AI) DJ.
Similar to a normal DJ, the Spotify DJ collects a lineup of songs designed specifically for the listener and provides commentary and information among the songs and artists.
“We’re reimagining how listeners hear and discover the music they love as the tool transforms Spotify from a music tool into a living, breathing, interactive music experience,” said Spotify Co-President Gustav Söderström.
Spotify fabricated their customized AI DJ from the same technology that created ChatGPT.
The more the artificial intelligence is used, the more it’ll learn and get better at producing a more personalized music experience to all Spotify users, according to pcmag.com.
“The AI DJ reminds me of the radio but with all the music I love and enjoy,” said freshman Cole Stutton. “However, unlike the radio, I have the ability to skip whatever songs I like and inform the DJ of the music I do like.”
