Ocean Lakes Theater Company (OLTC) recently had auditions for the fall play “Clue,” inspired by the 1949 mystery board game and 1985 comedy film.
Auditions took place on Sept. 11, 2024.
“I look for a spark, a certain kind of energy,” artistic director Claude Blanchard said. “That it-factor that makes them stand out.”
The main cast will consist of eight people that find themselves embroiled in a mystery after the host of their dinner party inexplicably dies.
“[The play] is so funny. Half the cast is dead by the end, and it is awesome,” sophomore Callie Harroun said.
Students gathered after school in the auditorium and slowly filed into the theater room to audition for their part.
“There is [an abundance] of competition,” junior and executive board officer Eleanor Strader said.
Students can also join the crew of the play.
“If you do not like to act, do not act. If you do not like to sing, do not sing. You can work on props, costumes and the tech booth. There are so many opportunities,” Callie said.
Theater can benefit students in a multitude of ways.
“I think a lot of people think of theater as just acting, but it is so much more,” Blanchard said. “The opportunity to learn lights, sound, hair and makeup, costumes and sets encompasses [many] of real-world skills.”
According to those who auditioned for the play, theater provides a sense of community amongst students.
“Seeing all these people with a similar passion is inspiring, and you get to meet so many great people,” Eleanor said.
“Clue” will be performed in the auditorium on Nov. 21-24, 2024.
