Thirty-six time award-winning singer and songwriter Pharrell Williams created a movie dedicated to his journey to fame.
The movie featured his hometown Virginia Beach, Va. Giving back to his community, he gave every student and staff member in Virginia Beach City Public Schools the chance to acquire a free ticket to watch his movie.
Williams graduated from Princess Anne High School (PAHS) in 1991, where he was a member of the marching band. To honor his alma mater, he gave the 2024-2025 PAHS marching band an opportunity to play in a song that would be featured in his movie.
“My high school marching band was in the song because that’s where it all started,” Williams said during a WAVY-TV News 10 interview.
Some students have a personal experience with Williams, so getting a ticket from him was exciting.
“I met him when I was younger; I went to Seatack Elementary School, which was where he also went. I think it is really nice what he is doing for us and how he is giving back to the community,” junior Jasmyn Miller said.
Tickets were available for pick up from Oct. 15 to Oct. 18, 2024.
“I think that it was very generous of him to give every student in Virginia Beach a ticket, not just the students that are attending the same school as he did,” junior Andrew Nicholson said.
