Skyscrapers await as AP English Literature students are invited on the annual art and photography trip to New York City, N.Y. The trip will explore various museums, installations, performances and an entertainment cruise on the Hudson River.
“The dinner cruise is the best part,” art teacher Abbigail Sullivan said. “We enjoy a buffet, a DJ and a viewing deck, which shows the Brooklyn Bridge, the lights on the Statue of Liberty and the city skyline.”
Full of excitement and adventures, many alumni recall this trip as one of the most memorable experiences of high school. In the past, students have visited the Color Factory, the Broadway Musical and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“One of my favorite moments was seeing the Blue Man group,” senior Kayla Phu said, who went on the trip during her sophomore year. “Their slapstick humor and audience engagement were really funny, and they even shot banana mush at us during the show.”
The trip will take place from April 9 to April 11, 2025. Students will leave Ocean Lakes around midnight on April 9, and arrive in New York around 9 a.m. Students will depart from New York around 1:30 p.m., on April 11 and will return to Ocean Lakes the same evening. Meals will be provided during the trip through cash envelopes from the cost of the trip; however, students will be responsible for breakfast each day and dinner on the bus trip back to the school.
“I’m excited about visiting the Morgan Library and Museum, which contains real, once-in-a-lifetime artifacts, like the Gutenberg Bible, writings from Charles Dickens and even music written from Bach,” said AP Lit teacher Thomas Stewart.
As the trip progresses in the planning process, more information will be communicated to students and parents.
“Everybody should get a chance to experience NYC once in their life; what better time than now?” Sullivan said.
