Girls basketball officially started their season on Nov. 11, 2024, after three days of tryouts.
“I am looking forward to playing with my teammates again; it’s been a minute, so I’m excited to be back on the court with them,” junior Jasmyn Miller said.” I’m [also] excited how this season is going to go with some teammates gone and the new freshmen coming in.”
A typical practice begins with stretching and drills, then ends with a scrimmage during the last thirty minutes.
The team is composed of five team captains: seniors Tessa Verner, Madeline (Maddi) Fisher and juniors Samara Williams, Erin Broderick and Jasmyn.
“The captains are there for the other players; we help out with whatever the coach needs and [they are] just overall leaders of the team,” Jasmyn said.
Personal objectives involve improving skills and gaining experiences to contribute to the success of the team.
“I plan on growing myself by working hard in practice and games and pushing myself to get better as the season goes on,” Maddi said. “I want to work [on communicating] better with my teammates, so we can have a successful season.”
However, their outlook on progress is not limited to personal goals.
“Our team dynamic is very healthy; we all have very high standards for ourselves as well as hold each other accountable,” Tessa said.
The girls played their first game against the Granby High School Comets on Dec.3, 2024, at 7 p.m., at Ocean Lakes High School and ended with a losing score of 59-31. Their next game is against First Colonial High School Patriots on Dec. 5, 2024, at 7 p.m., at Ocean Lakes High School.
