As lacrosse sticks unite with the rhythm of determination, girls lacrosse officially begins their season of victory.
After losing three First Team All-Region players, girls lacrosse talent remains prevalent.
“Thankfully, the talent on our team is very deep. We have [many] seniors and juniors that are phenomenal players,” varsity lacrosse coach Lauren Logan said. “From the early stages, I can see that the freshmen and sophomores are enthusiastic and picking up the game quickly.”
Conditioning began on Jan. 28, 2025, on the Ocean Lakes turf field, and it consisted of one-mile runs, sprints, weightlifting, minor stickwork and full-body workouts.
“I am most looking forward to seeing everyone from the team back together so we can be there for one another and hopefully have another very successful season,” sophomore Grace Kinley said.
The team has a few key players who will lead and support the team to triumph which include captains: Riley Wright, Lauren Rakov and Chloe Purvis, according to Logan.
“Our goal is always to have fun and grow as a team. We have a few girls who have picked up a stick for the first time,” Logan said. “Our other goal is to share the love of the game and increase everyone’s lacrosse [Intelligence quotient].”
Varsity lacrosse had their first scrimmage against the Kempsville Chiefs at Ocean Lakes High School at 4 p.m. on March 11, 2025, ending with a winning score of 10-9.
“I think the scrimmage was a great way for the newer players to get a sense of the game, as well as getting everyone on the team back into the team spirit and be ready for the rest of the season,” senior Nina Elizondo said.
Girls varsity lacrosse will play Norfolk Academy at 5 p.m. on March 25, 2025, at Ocean Lakes.
“This team puts up a great front on both the attacking and defensive,” junior Reese Longwater said. ”We have some really strong returning players. I look forward to defending our record.”
