In an exciting road matchup, Ocean Lakes boys varsity soccer defeated Kempsville with a final score of 3-2.
The game began with a slow start from both teams, but the action kicked off in the 40th minute. Junior Jeffrey Paul scored on a 2v1 breakaway, tapping the ball around the goalkeeper, giving the Dolphins a 1-0 lead at halftime. The assist came from sophomore Lukas Leach.
Kempsville responded in the second half and equalized in the 69th minute, which shifted the momentum in their favor. The Chiefs then took the lead at the 76th minute, putting the Dolphins behind.
“We couldn’t get too comfortable with a one-goal lead and let off the gas,” senior goalkeeper David Suiter said.
Although, Ocean Lakes was not out of gas just yet. In the 78th minute, Jeffery played a corner kick to junior Gabe Teeter, who headed it in to make the score 2-2, sending the game into overtime.
In the 88th minute of the second overtime, Jeffery scored for the Dolphins once again, placing a shot high and to the far side of the net to give Ocean Lakes a 3-2 victory.
“We learned to stay composed and play our game,” Suiter said. “The bus rides home always come with a great celebration after a win like that.”
