Tidewater Community College (TCC) recently announced the launch of their athletic program with their first men’s and women’s basketball teams for the 2025-26 school year. They will join the Region 10 Conference of the National Junior College Athletic Association, a group of community, state and junior college athletics.
With this, TCC becomes the largest community college in Virginia to offer competitive athletics.
Senior Madeline (Maddi) Fisher will be a member of the women’s team, alongside other members of the graduating class from various local basketball teams. Maddi was a key member and leader of the girls basketball team this year, averaging 6.2 points and 2.2 steals per game.
“My biggest goal next year is to improve as much as I can and work hard all year,” Maddi said.
The women’s team is to be coached by Rebecca Kershaw, former Division II athlete at Saint Paul’s College and decorated middle school basketball coach.
“I understand that I have been called to serve, and coaching basketball is my platform to change lives one play at a time,” Kershaw said in an interview for her introductory article with TCC.
Maddi will officially sign to play basketball for TCC on April 10, 2025, on the Chesapeake campus.
“I am most excited to meet my teammates and form friendships with them,” Maddi said. “Also playing teams from other states because I never thought I would play college [basketball].”
