The Ocean Lakes Theatre Company (OLTC) brings “Bye Bye Birdie” to Ocean Lakes on May 1-4 in the auditorium. While cash is not accepted at the door, tickets may be purchased at gofan.co for $10.
“Bye Bye Birdie” is a family friendly, classic and high energy show. This musical was chosen because students requested a show with more dancing, according to Theater Director Claude Blanchard.
Auditions took place in late January and early February. Since then, OLTC has been working on their singing, acting and dancing. The Ocean Lakes Band and Orchestra will join them for the next few weeks of rehearsal.
“Producing a musical is a bit like putting together a puzzle [because] you have to ensure that each piece fits perfectly,” Blanchard said.
As the OLTC gets closer to actual performances, their rehearsals begin to run later as well, staying late to work on costumes, props, hair and makeup, lighting, set design and construction, publicity and sound.
“[Bye Bye Birdie]” remains one of the most popular musicals performed in schools,” Blanchard said.
