The tagged award is given to faculty and staff members who not only demonstrate excellence in teaching, but take that extra step for the students and legacy of Ocean Lakes.
Teachers are often overlooked and underappreciated, but the tagged award ensures they get the recognition they deserve, while also appreciating them for all that they do.
“We are Dolphins and we work to make this community strong,” Principal Claire Le Blanc said.
Every week, administration gathers to discuss who they have noticed going the extra mile, and once decided, the faculty or staff member is then presented with a door tag in front of their classroom.
So far, biology teachers Elizabeth Boys and Andrew Bedinger, geometry teacher Tara Yurik, special education teacher Reese Benzel, substitute Dianna Parlette and technical support technician Eric Pulley have been tagged.
“It is wonderful to be recognized by our administrators for my hard work within the classroom,” Boys said.
Assistant Principal Amanda Malbon, creator of the tagged award, intended to highlight teachers particular to Ocean Lakes.
“K-12 educators are very underappreciated, and while there are programs across the division to recognize a few of them, I wanted to create something internal and specific to Ocean Lakes,” Malbon said.
