AP European History students embarked on a free-of-charge field trip to the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk to explore art studied throughout the school year.
After arriving, students were given a guided tour of the museum by an employee and then explored on their own, with lunch time provided in between. Students were also given a scavenger hunt during the visit to find various art pieces.
“We did a scavenger hunt where we were looking for famous pieces of artwork related to European history, and that was my favorite part,” sophomore Vihaan Shah said.
It was also easy for the students to make connections between the art pieces they saw and what they learned throughout the year.
“I saw endless connections at the museum. Without taking AP Euro, I would give the museum about a 5/10, but with the connections, I would give it a 10/10,” sophomore Eeshan Desai said.
The trip occurs every year at the Chrysler Museum. Teachers believe that it is a great experience for students to visualize some art concepts they learned about throughout the year, including works from the Renaissance, the French Revolution, World War II and everything in between.
“The fact that the museum rooms are literally set up by the art movements we learned – Renaissance, Baroque, etc. – made it really easy to make connections to the curriculum,” AP Euro teacher and trip chaperone Jakob Saunders said. “It is pretty amazing that we have works from very famous artists including Picasso, Bernini, Delacroix, Renoir and others available to view for free in Norfolk.”
