The new principal, Dr. Leslie Ittner, introduced administration presentations during every block in the first week of school, a new addition to Ocean Lakes.
Some upperclassmen, however, felt that certain presentations were not necessary.
“The upperclassmen did not really need the “How to Locate your Bus” presentation because we already knew how to,” junior Joshua Gray said.
These presentations were designed to inform students about dismissal procedures, tardy policies, cell phone rules, schedules, opportunities to get involved, study block expectations, bathroom passes, lunch procedures and school assemblies. Certain components like the cell phone and dress code rules were from VBCPS.
“I thought they would be more helpful for the underclassmen, as seniors such as myself would know a lot of the material already,” senior Ami Badiye said.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) rules are new to Ocean Lakes this year. The AI video or presentation was made to help students understand that it can be a useful tool for learning, but it should not replace their own effort and creativity.
“I think the new policy will provide integrity of content and instructions as students develop skills while at the same time, allowing them to responsibly embrace a technology that they will be using the rest of their lives,” marketing teacher Jim Cartwright said.
Altogether, these presentations are designed to give students the tools and knowledge they need so they can navigate school life with confidence.
“It seemed efficient, though, so maybe continuing to use them could be beneficial,” Ami said.
