Girls volleyball started their season off strong with two back-to-back wins against Great Bridge High School and First Colonial High School and are currently ranked sixth in the 757, according to a ranking by 757teamz.
With 24 players, the team is led by nine seniors and three captains: Santina Martcheva, Carmela Mendoza and Aubrey Spagnoli.
“I am very proud of the way the girls are all coming together and the chemistry of the team,” Carmela said.
The girls set the tone strong in the first game against Great Bridge, finishing with a score of 3-0. In the second game, after the Patriots won the first set, the Dolphins came back to win the next three, ending the match with a score of 3-1.
Santina, Lyla Shannon and Bella Smith combined for 31 kills, while Alexis Broggin and Charlotte Nguyen contributed 11 aces against First Colonial, according to 757teamz.
Starters Carmela, Santina, Alexis, Kennedy Walls, Sienna Carr, Lyla Shannon and Bella Smith have all been key contributors to the success of the team, according to Carmela.
“I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season progresses,” Carmela said.
