Boys and girls cross country started off the season strong with the boys team ranking second and the girls team ranking fifth in Class 5 Region A.
The team began practicing on July 8, running many miles a week and preparing for the season.
“We practiced 25–50 miles per week at First Landing Park and Mt. Trashmore,” head coach Michael Nestor said.
Players see the intensity of practices but recognize their benefits and enjoy the adventure of them.
“The workouts are definitely intense. We do a lot of strides, tempo 1K’s where you start slow and then you go faster. I run 20 plus miles weekly,” freshman Jordyn Moore said. “The long runs are super fun. You get to explore different trails.”
These rigorous practices have paid off, as the boys placed 17th and the girls placed 28th in the A race at the RVA Relays at Mechanicsville, Va. on Sept. 13, 2025.
Nearly a week later, the boys placed 22nd, and the girls placed 8th in the 5000-meter run at the Adidas XC Challenge in Cary, Nc. on Sept. 19, 2025.
“Our goal is to be the best at improving and compete at the state championships,” Nestor said.
