Varsity football strives towards an improving season after taking three losses and starting the season with a record of 2-3. Head coach James Yeager prepares to hold the team to a high standard this year.
“We are counting on our six starting seniors, we will be expecting big plays and rising to the occasion. We also have many juniors who have loads of experience on the varsity team who will together make the team stronger this year,” Yeager said.
Starting the season strong, the Dolphins had a victory against First Colonial High School on Sept. 5, 2025 with an ending score of 43-0. Shortly after, the team hit a rough patch while playing Tallwood and Kellam High School.
“We all need to work as a team to ensure that we stay locked in during the game. I hope that the team can win the next couple of games,” senior and kicker Austin Cox said.
The Dolphins had a successful win against Princess Anne High School, with a score of 55-0. Sophomore Deshawn Bodie, juniors Antonio Ramos and Remi Lynch and senior Antonio Oseguera successfully scored. Ocean Lakes were able to score at least two touchdowns within each quarter.
“This win felt good for the team. I really think that it brought us together and will help us work harder for the remainder of the season,” Antonio Ramos said.
The team played Cox High School on Oct. 3, 2025. Ocean Lakes was able to score 10 total points, however Cox scored 14 points, which resulted in the Dolphins third loss of the season.
As a result of these two games, the team is currently ranked 8th in the district.
With the next few games set to be against Kempsville and Salem High School, the team aims for a comeback. The coaches and team strive to continue the season victoriously.
“We are focusing on one game at a time. Our team is still very young in a lot of areas, we have freshmen at key positions. They are young and extremely talented but still adjusting to the speed of the game,” Yeager said.
