Thirteen homecoming court candidates exemplify the students of Ocean Lakes High School as they stride across the football field on Oct. 3, 2025 during halftime.
Each grade level has the opportunity to demonstrate leadership and become role models for their peers. These students proudly display their school spirit, unity and positivity — qualities that make them a distinct dolphin.
“[Good role models should exhibit] open-mindedness. It’s really inspiring for people to look up to somebody that is willing to learn from others,” freshman homecoming court candidate Vechya Renjit said.
Vechya is an outgoing and involved member of her community. She is a member of SCA’s Community Outreach Committee, and she volunteers for Adopt-A-Waterway.
“[Students who have trouble getting involved] should ask questions because the people at Ocean Lakes are always super helpful,” said sophomore homecoming court candidate Seth Bangsal.
Striving to be supportive in his grade, Seth serves as the sophomore class president. He led his classmates to victory for their “The Magic School Bus” themed hall decorations this fall, as announced at the homecoming assembly.
“[My biggest contribution to Ocean Lakes is] how I help people. I am always willing to help people in class understand different concepts,” junior homecoming court candidate Riley Taguba said. “I believe that this will give back to the community because my kindness will help other people be kind. It’s like a ripple effect.”
Riley is a student who highly values kindness and demonstrates his generosity daily. He is an active SCA Executive Board member, and he is also dedicated to cross country.
“My advice for the students would be to just go for it. You only get to do high school once so enjoy every second of it,” senior Abbie Tignor, who was crowned a Royal Fin, said. “Don’t waste any of your time here and don’t let what other people say dictate how you spend your four years.”
