Celebrating its third official year, the OL Pickleball Club’s first meeting of the school year flourished, with over 15 students in attendance.
During the meeting on Oct. 23, 2025, club members were introduced to the sport by junior and club president Zak-Kain Kuzniewski and club sponsor Eric Jaworski.
Zak assumed the leadership role after being recommended by Jaworski.
“When Jaworski asked if anyone could get the Instagram account [from the previous president Barrett Scharfe], something sparked inside of me, knowing what I could do for the school,” Zak said. “It just seemed like such an interesting club that could be the foundation of so much fun and enjoyment here in the OLHS community.”
Soon after a quick safety discussion and introduction to the rules of the sport to new participants, members made their way towards the tennis courts to begin playing from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Members of the club are encouraged to bring their own pickleball paddles and balls to allow everyone to play.
According to Zak, students should attend due to how great of an opportunity it is.
“People should attend [OL Pickleball Club meetings] because pickleball is a fun opportunity to pick up a sport that is not only fun to play, but also be a part of a group of people that are supportive and passionate about their school community.”
Other members joined the club because of the sport itself.
“I joined the club to become part of a community that shares my interest in pickleball,” junior Salman Hasan said. “Being part of the club gives me access to a new group of teammates as well as opponents.”
Club meetings will take place during the fall every week after school from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 250, with meetings contingent on the weather. Their next is scheduled for Oct. 30, 2025.
In the future, the club aims to diversify and expand.
“For the future of the club I’m hoping that we’re able to expand and grow across multiple grade levels and bring in a greater diversity of students to help create a more unique group of people,” Zak said.
