In the summer of 2016, a new beauty challenge was wowing viewers worldwide. YouTubers all over the world were doing the “Full-Face Highlighter Challenge”.

The first person to start this crazy trend was 18 year-old beauty blogger Mariyah Lyubashevkaya. She layered many different illuminators using them as her foundation, contour, blush, eyeshadow, and even lipstick.

This video was trending on YouTube and soon became popular on Instagram as well. Many other beauty bloggers followed in her footsteps, recreating this stunning look.

At first this trend didn’t start off as a challenge but it became one as other gurus created their own interpretation of the look.

People like Jeffree Star and NikkieTutorials uploaded their own take on Mariyas video and the “challenge” continued from there.

“Who isn’t obsessed with highlighters?” Beauty blogger Nikkie from NikkieTutorials commented on  Mariya’s video.

This highlighter challenge takes some skill to look decent rather than looking like a slippery, greasy mess.

Look magazine wrote about Nikkie’s video and said, “You could almost get away with wearing her look out and about. It looks THAT professional.”

While the trend may be somewhat intense for beauty lovers, it’s a trend that might be sticking around for quite a while.
