Seniors Andrea Granada and Maria Bettilyon tryout for varsity soccer on Feb. 24, and the team formed on Feb. 26, only to be delayed until further notice.

VHSL postponed the beginning of the spring sports season by two weeks due to health risks posed by COVID-19.

On March 12, VBCPS canceled all afterschool activities until further notice, which means no practices, and ultimately, a delay in games.

“I’m upset with the season getting postponed, but I understand it’s to keep everyone safe and healthy,” said senior Meredith King, one of the captains on the soccer team.

The season now starts on March 30, and all state tournaments at the end of the year remain scheduled for their original dates at this time. Athletes continue to train and condition outside of school with the hope that sports will resume at the end of the two weeks.

“We are making efforts to stay in shape and keep being technically sound on the ball as well as shooting with a couple of our teammates during these two weeks,” said Meredith.
