(From left to right) Lead guitarist Adam Allen, rhythm guitarist Brian Griffin, and vocals Kai Perry celebrate with local bands “Alpha,” “Squid?,” and “You’re Jovian” after their show at The Hurt House on March 6.

“The older you get, the more rules they’re gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin’ man. L-I-V-I-N,” said Adam Allen, class of 2019 alumnus, for his senior quote.

Living it up is exactly what this former dolphin’s been doing this past year when he decided to form his own alternative punk band in the summer of 2019 with the hope to fully pursue music.

The local band Stinkboogz consists of Allen, lead guitarist, Brian Griffin, rhythm guitarist, James Dickerson, bass, and Nathan Harvey, drums. The underground band released their first EP, “New England Clam Chowder,” on Apple Music and Spotify on Nov. 14, 2019, and Nov. 15, 2019, respectively. The band’s first EP received positive reviews by many users on Instagram, and The Bugz plan is to release their next EP, “LPG,” on Spotify and Apple Music on April 20, 2020.

“We always loved jamming, so we figured we should start making music and doing shows,” said Allen. “Hopefully, we can take this band all the way.”

Allen works as a cashier at Target, and he also enjoys skateboarding in his free time. He reveals that the band is greatly influenced by Nirvana, Black Flag, Jay Reatard, and 80s hardcore punk bands.

“It all started because we all share the same passion for music, and now we are doing shows,” said Griffin. “We’re working on our next EP, so hopefully we will have that out soon.”

The band performed their most recent show on March 6 at the Hurt House with other local bands, such as, You’re Jovian, Spitty, Alpha, and Squid?

“The show was a great success,” said senior Noah Wright. “It had a big turn out, and it’s cool seeing all the local talent jam out.”
