On Sat., Jan. 22, Sydney Cortez test ran her sled, the one she created for Pooh Bear, in her backyard.

Leadership class, taught by history teacher and coach, Michael Boomer, was assigned a snow day mission task for the recent snowfall in Virginia Beach.

The mission, should they choose to accept it, said Boomer, was to complete the following task: a small bear cub has been stranded in the snow, and it is your job to save him. The bear is too large to carry, and the snow is too deep for him to walk in. Build a sled that will help get the bear get home safely, using whatever resources available. Then go outside and test the sleigh and take a picture of it. Afterward, write a story that explains how the bear got separated from his mother and how he was saved. Use your imagination and provide all details of the adventure.

“I got my idea from Santa’s sleigh, and I wanted mine to look kinda like that, but instead, I used Winnie the Pooh as my object,” said junior Sydney Cortez.
