Crowd waits as The Offspring sets the stage on Aug. 27, 2022.

ECSC hosted well-known artists to bring bigger crowds to the 60th Annual Surf Contest. After years of COVID-19 restrictions, Beach City Council sponsored this year’s annual event with $750,000 to bring more people to the Oceanfront.
The event was held in August and ended on the weekend of Aug. 28, offering many diverse Vans Pro of surf heats to all ages. Other events included volleyball, a Boardwalk 5K run, Coastal Edge Thrash Bash Skate Bash, a BMX activation, swimsuit contests, and food and drink concessions.
In addition, many tourists and locals came together to see the headlining bands, including but not limited to Ava Max, Yung Gravy, Third Eye Blind, Mod Sun, The Offspring, and Ben Harper.
“I work at Waterman’s, so I got to see all of the artists play at ECSC,” said senior Abby Fuqua. “I really enjoyed the popular bands and thought they all did a great job performing this year. It was a great turnout.”
