Darian McKenzie runs with determination to get his second touchdown of the night on Oct. 20, 2023, while his teammates guard him to ensure he does not get tackled.

JV football obtained their second official win of the season against Salem High School on Oct. 20, 2022, and successfully ended the game with a score of 28-0.

“It was a fun and hard-working game. Our offense was good and our defense really communicated very well,” said center Blake Ledford.

Within the game’s first five minutes, Ocean Lakes scored their first touchdown when quarterback Will Masinbacker handed the ball off to running back Darian Makenzie who ran the ball down to the endzone from the 40-yard line, scoring the first of his three touchdowns of the night.

“Every time I put my hand on that ball, I’m getting a touchdown,” said Darian.

The fourth and final touchdown of the night was scored by freshman Micheal Lane who ran the ball into the endzone after receiving a handoff from Will at the 10-yard line.

“I didn’t think about anything else after he handed the ball to me, I just ran,” said Micheal.

The first win the team received this season was during a scrimmage where they played Princess Anne at Ocean Lakes and successfully ended the game with a shutout of 20-0 on Sept. 8, 2022.

Communication and diligence are essential in football. Keeping up with plays and watching the other team’s movements takes practice and attentiveness.

“I’m extremely proud of how hard the young men have worked all season. They really came together in this game offensively and defensively,” said Coach DJ Dinsmoor. “We’ve come together as a family.”
