Sophomore Marlie Smith dribbles past her opponent at the game against Green Run on Jan. 5, 2023 at Green Run High School.

JV girls basketball gain their fourth win of the season this past Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, when they faced the Green Run Stallions.

Led by coaches Ronnie Hawkins, Frank Thomas, JR Teasley, and team captains sophomore Marlie Smith and juniors Shay Barnes and Madison Anton, lady Dolphins pushed for a win. Other players also made their mark on the court that night.

Sophomore Tiera Sellers leads the team with the most three pointers, and freshman Kristin Lipsky leads with six steals per game.

Coach Lisa Merriweather, the girls’ varsity coach, says she expects the team to finish far above the 500 level, which means they will win more than half of their games by the end of the season. The team is currently 4-3 for the 2022-2023 season, which will end on Jan. 18, 2023.

“The girls have been outstanding, improving every game. They have become a family on the basketball court, which makes them perform at the top of their game,” said Merriweather.

Their next game is on Monday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at First Colonial.
