Ashley Henry slides to score against Kempsville on March 20, 2023 at Kempsville.

Ocean Lakes softball paints their road to regionals.

The girls are currently 7-1, only losing to rival, Kellam. Led by six seniors, who are all signed to play in college, the team is still relatively young, with numerous freshmen and sophomores.

“Softball is all about teamwork and communication,” said sophomore Olivia Cirillo. “It’s a mental game and is really easy to get stuck in your own head, so you need teammates to build you up.”

Olivia is the starting third baseman and earned second-team all-region last year. She hopes to not only take her team to regionals but also come out victorious.

Dolphins recently dominated the Green Run Stallions on April 4, 2023, and hope to continue their winning streak with their next game against the Bayside Marlins on April 17, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.

“Our chances of doing well in the postseason are very high, and we can truly do anything if we continue our level of perseverance and hard work,” said Olivia.
