Girls varsity soccer celebrates a 2-1 win against Norfolk Academy on April 4, 2023, at Norfolk Academy.

Girls varsity soccer hopes to bring the heat to Regionals this year. Building off a state quater-final loss last season, the girls carried the success into the 2023 season.

Led by team captains Sierra Clark, Emily Box and Anna Kain-Kuzniewski, the girls have scored a total 33 goals this season. Their strong leadership is key to leading the young team to success.

“I’m confident our team will prosper during the postseason,” said junior Alli Orchard-Hays. “We prepared ourselves after playing top-ranked teams and performing well throughout the season.”

Dolphins lost 2-1 to No. 2 ranked First Colonial High School. This result was the closest score of any game for First Colonial all season. This performance proves the girls can compete with ranked talent.

“Our record and rankings don’t showcase our full potential,” said junior Peyton Staub.

The girls tied the No. 4 ranked team Cox, beat the No. 6 ranked team Norfolk Academy and came 1 goal short against the No. 5 ranked team Grassfield, yet are still unranked.

“This was a successful season for us,” said Alli. “We showed great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout each game.”

Regionals will begin at 6 p.m. on May 24, 2023 against Oscar Smith at Oscar Smith High School.

“We have high hopes for Regionals. I’m so proud of how well the team has done this year and the great bond we have all formed,” said senior captain Emily Box.
