Homecoming dances have been celebrated with a new theme since 1994. This year’s theme was très bien with a “Night in Paris.”
“At homecoming, students can feel a sense of belonging, which makes school more enjoyable,” said homecoming chaperone Andrea Smolin. “We have such great pride in our school that reminds everybody that they are somebody.”
Homecoming can also be a way for students to step out of their comfort zones and make new friends. So, the SCA made sure they did all they could to make it special and inclusive for all students.
“We wanted the dance in the gym instead of the cafe. We saw that Kempsville had carpet, found a way to get it approved and made it happen this year,” said SCA sponsor and chaperone Wendy Tate.
This year’s homecoming was held on Oct. 14. Less than a week prior to the homecoming dance, all 650 tickets were sold out. Students arrived to the dance with their dates, friends and guests.
“I feel like people should go to homecoming at least twice throughout their years of high school just to experience it and have a good time with other students,” said sophomore Korra Tinsley.
With the help of the executive board and general assembly members, the gym was decorated and dazzled with Paris themed decor for the special night of the dance.
“All the energy from everyone and how homecoming was set up made it all memorable for me,” said junior Tristan Savage.
