Apocolyptic-type movies like sci-fi, dramas or horrors, have been recognized for their wild fantasies that seem as if they will most likely never happen, but can actually be quite realistic.

“Leave the World Behind,” a film produced in 2023 based on the 2020 novel, shows just what a blackout could do to damage the world. The goal of this movie is to show how much people depend on everyday technology and how much it impacts daily lives.

Other movies show overly fictional disasters, but this movie illustrates realistic events with its plot being centered around modern-day technology.

One of the first things to be affected by the blackout was transportation.

This is a reasonable and possible way a blackout can occur in the real world if one were ever to happen.

Due to the loss of signals, planes would crash and vehicles run by computers, such as Tesla’s, would lose control and cause harm.

Other technologies that are disrupted during blackouts are computers, TVs and satellites.

Due to this blackout, animals start showing signs that something is up. For example, deers form groups, facing frontward to indicate that something is going on.

Other apocalyptic movies that show how easily society can be rattled are, “The Day After,” “Contagion” and “Carriers.” All of these movies also show realistic events that could happen in the present time, like how a blackout and infection breakouts can happen right now.

In the reviews of this movie, many people complained about the ending and how it was an anticlimactic ending when in reality, it was realistic.

“The stupidest ending I have seen so far,” said someone in the rotten tomatoes review of the movie.

No matter how lousy the ending was, there is a takeaway from this movie that cannot be denied: the end of the world as we know is one technology blackout away.
