Mothers are like buttons. They hold everything together.
Every year on the second Sunday in May, families celebrate Mother’s Day. This year, it falls on May 12, 2024.
The holiday’s origins can be traced back to 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson declared it a national holiday. Since then, it’s been celebrated as a day to honor mothers nationwide.
“I think we get caught up in life and don’t notice how much our moms would do for us,” said sophomore Bella Rivers. “It’s good to have a day where we can celebrate [them].”
Whether it’s a morning brunch or even a simple card, Mother’s Day provides people the opportunity to express appreciation for their mothers.
For some students, their mothers are their source of inspiration that pushes them to pursue their dreams.
“[My mom] is an engineer which is what I want to do, so it’s definitely influenced me,” said Bella.
