Marching band and WAVE Visual Ensemble embark on a new season with a two-week long camp from Aug. 5-17, 2024.
The camp consisted of learning the basics to marching, gaining endurance and working with music. Towards the end of camp, the training is integrated to rehearse routines for the year’s performance inspired by the 1988 horror comedy movie, “Beetlejuice.”
The band divided itself into four key sections: drumline, front ensemble, the winds and color guard.
“Color guard adds a visual element whereas the percussionists and wind players use musical phrasing to portray the story of our show,” said senior Ava Sharp.
Marching band and WAVE Visual Ensemble will perform “Beetlejuice” during halftime at the home football game on Sept. 6, 2024, against First Colonial High School.
“Band camp helps color guard and marching band get to know each other better and it is a great way to learn the show, ” said senior Cait Daniello. “It prepares us mentally and physically for the season, just like any sport.”
