National Honor Society (NHS) held its annual blood drive at Ocean Lakes High School.
On Dec. 17, 2024, 58 students and staff donated blood to the American Red Cross during the school day. The drive, which ran from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the school library, followed the mystery-inspired theme “Be the Missing Type.”
Students and staff who were at least 17 years old and met multiple health requirements regarding iron levels, height, weight and medications were eligible to donate. The donated blood gets sent to numerous hospitals, with each pint potentially saving three lives.
This year’s blood drive had a great turnout, according to blood drive co-chair and senior Sophia Tanenggee. Fifty-eight pints of blood were donated, potentially saving around 174 lives.
“We’re so thankful to all our donors and the Red Cross staff for making this event possible,” Sophia said.
