On Jan. 21, 2025, WTKR, a local news station, predicted that 2-3 inches of snow would accumulate overnight. As a result of the forecast, school was canceled for Jan. 22, 2025.
Sure enough, by morning, 2.8 inches covered the grounds of Virginia Beach, according to WTKR.com.
This snow day marked the area’s second snowfall of 2025, but the first since January 2022 to stick on the ground for the greater Virginia Beach area.
“I am just glad we finally got some snow to stay,” sophomore James Ward said. “It has been a while since I have been able to play in the snow.”
Students enjoyed the day through a variety of traditional snow day activities, from building snowmen to sledding.
“I really enjoyed building snowmen with my siblings and getting to hang out with my friends,” sophomore Skylar Dorr said.
Since ice and snow are still present on the roads, VBCPS has designated Jan. 23, 2025, an asynchronous day. Teachers will upload assignments on Canvas by 10 a.m. so that students can continue instruction from home on their school-issued Chromebooks.
“Virtual learning days are not my favorite, but I do enjoy the little extra sleep,” junior Ben Rosenberg said.
