From the pitcher’s mound to the outfield, each player plays a vital role as the softball team climbs the standings.
“Our softball team has so many player roles, on and off the field, so it’s hard to say just one or two [stand out players],” softball coach Michael Pollock said. “This game requires us all to stand out together.”
Beginning 11th in Hampton Roads, the Ocean Lakes varsity softball team has risen to 8th within a month, according to 757teamz.
However, this ranking does not come without triumph.
The Dolphins sealed another win against the Marlins of Bayside High School on April 22, 2025, ending with a score of 7-1.
“After today’s win, we will continue to work harder each day with the intention of staying persistent in our efforts against each opponent we face and by staying excited for our team’s success this spring,” junior Brianna Scheible said.
Shortly into the game, sophomore Ipper Smith scored the first run, and junior Sam Patterson obtained three more throughout the game. Other contributors include juniors Kaitlin Wilms, Cali Watson and senior Olivia Cirillo.
“Our team dynamic has allowed us to support each other… as sisters and has allowed us to produce wins and celebrate our little successes as a team,” said Cirillo.
Two days later, on April 24, 2025, the varsity softball team played the Knights at Kellam High School and were defeated 7-0, making their current record 8-3.
Nonetheless, the girls team strengthens their mindset and develops as a team through losses.
“I think our record comes straight from talent, teamwork, and chemistry,” said Cirillo. “Although we might [have] lost a game we shouldn’t have, it truly allowed us to grow as a team and made us realize we have to put in 100% effort no matter who we are facing.”
Varsity softball will face the Green Run Stallions on April 29, 2025, at Green Run High School at 4 p.m.
“If we keep working hard [and] getting better every day, I expect great things,” Pollock said. “We have a really talented team.”
