AVID students and coordinator Michelle McAfee sold decorated Tootsie Pops to students outside the cafeteria for $1 each. Oct. 30, 2018.

AVID sold Tootsie Pops this week decorated as ghosts to celebrate Halloween and to fundraise for future college trips.

“By doing ‘Boo 4 My Boo’ we’re able to boost school spirit while also raising money, so we can go on college trips like to James Madison and George Mason,” said senior Deedee Conic.

The event, which took place on Oct. 30 and Halloween, was named ‘Boo 4 My Boo’ as students could purchase decorated lollipops and gift them to their significant others.

The AVID program, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, serves as a college readiness course designed to help students prepare for college.

“Thanks to the generous contributions of OLHS staff, faculty, parents, and students over the last four fundraisers, AVID has paid for flexible seating tables and are well on the way to paying for a charter bus to GMU and Howard at the end of November!,” said AVID coordinator Michelle McAfee.
