Former Virginia Beach Police Department Officer Rene Ball started her job as a part-time security assistant on Feb. 1 after retiring from her 31-year long career in the police force.

“It really does make it feel safer in the school with all the added security this year, especially after all the tragic school shootings,” said senior Alycia Holscher. “It’s also cool how the new security guard has been a part of the police force for so long, she can bring a lot of skill and ideas.”
