From the safety of their vehicles, new Dolphins experienced a socially-distant orientation on Aug. 31.

“We’re out here greeting people and having a good time,” said Jim Cartwright,  marketing teacher and DECA club sponsor. “There’s a lot of faculty, and there’s a lot of kids out here. We show our love and passion for Ocean Lakes.”

SCA arrived hours earlier to help set up traffic patterns and draw encouraging messages in chalk. Clubs and teams like Latin Honor Society, Asian Culture Club, and girls soccer were also present during the orientation to welcome students and promote their extracurriculars.

“We’ve been standing here waving to students, cheering them on, and bringing some spirit,” said junior SCA member Chelsea Agyei.

The drive-by orientation lasted from 6-8 p.m. and concluded with the staff handing out over 265 goody bags filled with masks, cups, and important information.

“You do what you have to do,” said Susan Box, the mother of rising freshman Olivia Box.
