Erika Connolly, Helen Dondero, and Darcy Pohl were recently recognized for their achievements in teaching by the Great Dreams, Great Teachers program run by Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Connolly, who teaches AP U.S. History, was characterized as ‘the quintessential history teacher’. Dondero, a long time algebra teacher, was described as a teacher and tutor who goes out of her way to help students. Pohl, also a AP U.S. History and Government teacher, was described as a role model who encourages her students to work hard.

“She never makes me feel inferior, she’s always encouraging me to be the best that I can, and she is a very inspiring role model,” said senior Shelby Haggerty, who submitted the story on Pohl.

Those who have been influenced by a great teacher or staff member of VBCPS can submit a story of how they have made a difference in their life or those of a close one.
