Aniya Mosely leads in the 2020 state meet, 1000.

Junior Aniya Mosley added the 500m title to her collection of school records on Feb. 3 at the new Virginia Beach Sports Center with a time of 2:55.

“I want to thank my coach so much for believing in me and helping me to get where I am,” said Aniya.

With high school sports schedules in disarray, many athletes, like Aniyah, run independently or through clubs at meets. Regardless of the circumstances, Aniya’s time of 2:55 qualifies as the new record for the 500m.

“I believe Aniya’s time of 2:55 is number six in the United States,” said coach Mike Nestor.

Aniya is no stranger to records, however.

“As we celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports day, we want to give a special congratulations to Aniya Mosley who runs for Ocean Lakes High School. Aniya has set her fourth school record,” said prominent social media account Running etc.

In addition to her new record, Aniya already holds the school records in the 400m, XC 5K, and 4x800m relay and won the 1000m state championship race as a freshman.

“I’m really proud to have four records as a junior. My ultimate aim for this year is to win another state championship and hopefully get a couple more school records,” said Aniya.

Aniya plans to carry her hard work and talents to Virginia Tech after high school but still has time to continue to rewrite the record books at Ocean Lakes.

“I also want to thank my teammates for pushing me in practices to be the best that I can be. Without them, I could not have done all this,” said Aniya.
