After a rough start to the season, the boys volleyball team has seen a major turnaround and maintains a winning streak.
“I am incredibly proud of how the team has overcome the adversity we faced at the beginning of the season,” senior Anthony Liberatore said.”From building our confidence to staying optimistic on and off the court, each player has played a part in getting us to where we are today.”
Previously winning against Salem, Landstown, Bayside and Great Bridge High School, boys volleyball secured their fifth win in a row against the Green Run Stallions on Oct. 8, 2024, with a final score of 3-0.
Turner Kuhle scored the first point for the team shortly after the game began.
“It felt great just to get the team started, “Turner said.”It set the tone, and I’m glad that we could carry it on throughout the whole game.”
The team’s practice is characterized by a series of dynamic and static warmups, with some forms of scrimmage, hitting, blocking and passing drills five days a week.
However, their success is not subjected to practice, but also through the improvement of team chemistry.
“We started to come together more as a team [with] post-game dinners and team hangouts outside of practice,” senior David Suiter said.”The team is now much closer due to team bonding and we are starting to work better together and win games.”
Everyone contributes to the motivation and drive of the team, but one person in particular stands out, according to Liberatore.
“One player who consistently boosts the team’s energy is Dylan Gallahue. Even though it was his first year playing volleyball, he quickly unlocked his role as leader,” Liberatore said.”Every practice, he conveys the same attitude, pushing not only himself, but the entire team to get better.”
Boys volleyball will go against the First Colonial Patriots on Oct. 15, 2024, at First Colonial High School at 4 p.m.
