As professional sports progress throughout the year, fantasy leagues thrive. Club president and junior Zach Waterman decided to create the Fantasy Sports club to begin a new tradition at Ocean Lakes.
“Fantasy sports is so fun because you have a motive to cheer for a team in the NFL playoffs, even if your favorite team didn’t make it,” junior Drew Halter said.
With the club, Zach hoped to connect fantasy sports and sports enjoyers, creating life-long bonds among fellow members.
In preparation, Zach released an application due Dec. 5, 2025 to apply to be an officer, with unique positions to fit the needs of the club.
Junior Zak Kain-Kuzniewski was chosen as vice president, Drew as historian, junior Seinko Augins as chief fantasy expert and junior Levi Pearson as chief analyst.
Their first meeting took place on Jan. 8, with many students attending to learn more about fantasy sports.
At the gathering, members completed an NFL playoff fantasy draft in which students selected a quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end and defense from the current NFL playoff teams, with point values based on their in-game performance.
All are welcome to join the Fantasy Sports club regardless of their prior knowledge to fantasy sports or sports in general.
“Fantasy Sports club allows students to build practice social and professional skills while being in an engaging environment surrounded by sports,” Levi said.
The club hopes to grow to the entire school and persuade students to be more involved in sports and fantasy leagues.
“It’s an open and welcoming environment where students can draft, pick and cheer for their favorite players while still having that competitive fun with fellow members,” Drew said.
