During spring break, Ocean Lakes High School was granted an LED lighting upgrade, and with the use of occupancy sensors, these lights have the ability to preserve light energy.
“Each light fixture has an occupancy sensor, so when movement and/or sound is detected, the lights will remain on,” Principal Dr. Leslie Ittner said.
If no movement or sound is present for seven minutes after turning the lights on, they will begin to dim. Once the lights have been on for ten minutes without movement or sound, they will automatically shut off.
The dimming features are explained on a placard within every classroom.
“I like that they can dim, but they’re a little too bright,” junior Nathan Rohner said.
According to assistant principal James Imbriale, over 4,000 lights were replaced.
