The boys huddle up and discuss their game plan before the state semi-final match against James River High School on November 13, 2018.

Boys volleyball recently played in the state semi-final tournament at James River High School on Nov. 13. The set scores were 22-25, 19-25, 25-21, and 25-21. While this game ended in a tough loss, knocking the boys out of the state tournament, the boys finished their season 23-6 overall.

Key players this season included senior and outside hitter MJ Doyle, senior and middle hitter Micah Singer, and junior and libero Lucas Bushy. With MJ’s leadership and power, Micah’s height and speed, and Lucas’s quick feet and athleticism, the team finished one step away from the state championship at William and Mary.

“Honestly when I first saw the team I didn’t think much of it,” said Lucas. “Coach Boomer had high expectations. We ended up being way better than I ever thought we could be.”

Lucas said the boys came together well as a team and came in each and every practice ready to work hard and improve their skills.

“Postseason didn’t end how we wanted, but I wouldn’t have wanted to go through all of this with any other group of guys. We always had a lot of fun together,” said Lucas.
