The Model United Nations (MUN) club will host a car wash to raise money for their conference at William and Mary University.
“We have spread information about this at the MUN interest meeting last week,” sophomore and MUN Treasurer Frankie Graninger said. “We will also post the flier on Instagram, and then up around the school, so [students] here can know.”
The car wash will take place at 3420 Virginia Beach Blvd from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 21, 2024.
“We have an entire parking lot behind an AutoZone, and it is a big, open lot so there is plenty of space for two rows of cars at the same time,” junior and MUN president Grace Kavanaugh said.
The services offered are similar to those of a standard car wash.
“We will be washing, rinsing and drying the car, an estimated 10 to 15 minutes total,” Grace said. “Customers will have a nice shiny car in the end.”
Their upcoming conference will take place on Nov. 15-16, 2024, and this car wash is designed to support the expensive cost to participate in the conference.
“The cost of five rooms for a 16-member student team and two teacher chaperones is approximately $2200,” MUN faculty advisor Lisa Gibson said. “We are trying to raise about $500 to reduce the cost per student. Each student also pays a $75 registration fee and is responsible for paying for their lunch and dinner for three days.”
The MUN club is dedicated to fundraising money for this conference this year.
“I am optimistic; I think it is going to be a great car wash,” Grace said. “Hopefully we will raise [enough] money to lower the costs.
