Breaking news: Since last October, the morning announcements have a new format. Yes, that’s right. Many students may have noticed this change, but during the middle of the school year, the announcements switched to a video format.
“Personally, I enjoy the new announcements format. Broadcasting in a visual sense encourages attentiveness in students,” freshman Ethan Menashi said.
Not only does it keep the attention of the students visually, but it also has clearer audio. All in all, it makes it much easier for students to know what is going on.
“Ms. Clark has been wanting to start the live morning announcements for a year now,” junior Riley Taguba said.
Administrative assistant Michele Clark helped run and start the video format of the morning announcements. Because every other school has live video morning announcements, she worked with junior Carter Lewis to make it happen at Ocean Lakes High School.
“He helped pilot the live announcements for his Eagle Scout project,” Clark said.
They also met with Lee Cooper from Salem High School to set it up. Cooper has continuously helped Salem with their morning announcements.
As the current leader of the Ocean Lakes Live News Network, he also mentioned that the biggest challenge was selecting equipment and finding a crew.
“One of the biggest reasons we started the announcements was to increase student engagement,” said Riley, who is one of the six student staff members who participate in the live morning announcements. He mentions that working as a newscaster has improved his public speaking and relationship skills.
“I’m thankful for Ms. Clark for the effort she puts in,” Riley said.
