The boys outdoor track team looks forward to the upcoming spring season after a strong 2025 that saw an appearance in the Class 5 State Championships.
“I am looking forward to seeing myself and my teammates improve each day and set new personal bests,” junior Levi Pearson said.
The team is led by standout sophomores Fenton Million and Isaac Richardson and senior Quinton Suber. Other key runners include juniors Brady Curulla and Levi.
“I’m anticipating spending lots of time with the team over the season and making new memories with them,” Brady said.
The team prioritizes hard work and improvement as keys to success.
“It’s not so much what we can build on, but it is what we need to keep up,” Isaac said. “We are good at putting in the work, and as long as we continue to do that, we will see big results.”
Salem High School hosted the first meet of the season on March 25. Isaac had a strong showing, placing third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11:70 seconds, first in the 200-meter dash with 23:22 seconds, second in the 300-meter hurdles with 40:54 and fourth in the high jump with a height of five feet and four inches. Fenton placed first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:25:08.
“We’ve been hitting [personal bests] across the board, and that success is contagious,” Isaac said. “Everyone is locked in, healthy and genuinely believes in themselves.”
Strong performances from the second meet at Tallwood High School on April 15 included Isaac, who had a time of 1:57:5 to place first in the 800-meter run and fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:44:61. The boys dominated the 800-meter run, taking eight of the top 10 spots.
“We can build on last season’s success by showing up every day and consistently stacking up small wins to meet larger goals,” Brady said.
Distance runners practice at 64th Street, led by head coach Michael Nestor, and the sprinters and throwers practice at Ocean Lakes, led by Coach Ashton Thoroughgood. All three practices run Monday through Thursday.
“We’re very optimistic for the rest of the season,” Brady said. “Everyone on the team has potential and talent, and we are all motivated to see how far we can go with it.”
The next meet is scheduled for May 6 at Tallwood High School.
“I love being with my teammates and seeing them succeed,” Isaac said. “They are family.”
